Breeders of Future Dressage Stars

Sierra Bravo

2004 saw many triumphs for this grand old gentleman but also saw one of our saddest moments with the passing of Sierra Bravo aka Darcy. He was purchased as a gangly four year old from his breeder, Sally Haxwell as my first warmblood dressage horse. By the legendary Ludendorf (Old) out Anzio (TB), he took his green owner from wins in Preliminary to Advanced and introduced us to the more advanced FEI movements. In order not to hold back the horse it was decided that Bonnie Holstein should take over the ride and under her tutelage he blossomed into a commendable Grand Prix competitor.  He won many local titles and due to his quiet temperament he competed as a loan horse for international riders at several CDI’s. Young event rider Nicklaus Fyffe was given the opportunity to compete on him and was the cause of Nick’s career change to pure dressage. This partnership was also very successful before Nick travelled to Germany to study with Martina Hannover.  He was then to become my Grand Prix teacher after the birth of my first child until he met his untimely end. A great character, he will be greatly missed by all.

Goodbye my gentle giant.
